1993 Topps Cleveland Indians

Series 1,2 (29 cards)

Another depressing season. Steve Olin and Tim Crews were killed in Spring Training. Last season in Municipal Stadium. On the bright side: this would be the last losing season until 2002.

  • The Indians had four players with 100 OPS+ of better: Sorrento, Baerga, Belle and Lofton. Belle would lead the team with 32 HR.

  • In limited action, Jim Thome hit .266/.385/.474 with 7 HR.

  • The death of Olin and Crews left the pitching staff a mess. The Tribe would use 26 pitchers, and a decent pen is probably all that kept the Indians from 100 losses.

  • The Indians would draft pitcher Daron Kirkreit with their #1 pick. He never made the majors. They did nab Richie Sexson in the 24th.

  • The Indians would sign Dennis Martinez and Eddie Murray in December.

  • Also in December, the Indians would get Omar Vizquel from the Mariners.
