1992 Topps Cleveland Indians

Series 1, Traded (30 cards)

The ground was broken and Jacobs Field was under contruction. The Indians would end the season 20 games out of first, but the rebuilding effort was underway.

 

  • The Indians lost Doug Jones in January.

  • The Indians acquired Paul Sorrento in March.  

  • Kenny Lofton would steal 66 bases, breaking the American league record.

  • In June, the Indians make Paul Shuey their #1 pick in the draft.

  • In July the Indians acquired Jose Mesa from Baltimore.

  • Carlos Baerga (128 OPS+), Albert Belle (128 OPS+) and Paul Sorrento (121 OPS+) were the teams leading hitters.

  • Charles Nagy (17-10, 132 ERA+) was the leading pitcher. The rest of the roation was...rough.

  • Steven Oline (8-5, 29 saves, 168 ERA+) was a solid closeer. Ted Power and Derek Lilliquist also had good seasons out of the the pen.

  • Wax: 36 packs per box, 15 cards per pack (MSRP: $0.55).

  • Cello: 24 packs per box, 34 cards per pack (MSRP: $1.69).

  • Rack: 24 packs per box, 45 cards per pack.

1992 Topps is a 792-card set released in February 1992. This would be the last Topps set released as a single-series, and the first to be printed on white cardstock. This was also the first year Topps was packaged without gum and the first year packs were not wrapped in wax paper.
