1991 Topps Cleveland Indians

The Indians would lose 100 games for the third time in eight seasons. 

 

  • The highlight of the season was the draft on 03 June. The Indians would draft a highschool player from New York, Manny Ramirez.

  • 24 rookies would see playing time this season.  

  • Albert Belle would be the teams leading hitter, with 28 HR and a 134 OPS+

  • The design of what would become Jacobs Field was announced.

  • In September, John Hart was promoted to General Manager.

  • In November, Greg Swindell was traded.

  • In December, Kenny Lofton was acquired from the Astros for Eddie Taubensee and Willie Blair.

  • Wax: 36 packs per box; 15 cards per pack (MSRP: $0.50); 20 boxes per case

  • Cello: 24 packs per box; 31 cards per pack (MSRP: $0.89)

  • Rack: 24 pack per box; 46 cards per pack (MSRP: $1.49)

  • Supermarket Jumbos: 100 cards per pack

1991 Topps is a 792-card set. Notable for being its 40th Anniversary, the 91 Topps set is renowned excellent photography and design. Topps also began to transition away from wax paper wrappers in favor of plastic "poly" packs -- similar to those used in 1991 Stadium Club. An estimated 4-5 million copies of each card were printed.
